Apple’s proud acquisitions of 2013
With profits begins to stagnate, the Silicon Valley technology behemoth, Apple disclosed that it bought 15 companies in 2013. These new acquisitions include companies in search, mapping, software and semi-conductors. In the mapping area they bought Locationary, HopStop and Embark; search engine company Cue; Topsy Labs in the field of social media analytics; Matcha for video recommendations; WiFiSlam for indoor tracking and many others tech fields.
Topsy Labs acquisition gives the Apple power to get more detailed personalized data from its Siri, iTunes and App Store users. Its $350 million acquisition of PrimeSense in November 2013 gives access to motion-sense chip making technology such as those used in Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect. On the other hand, AlgoTrim that Apple acquired makes mobile devices more bandwidth efficient. Acquisition in the mapping area will help it solve some of the problems associated with its mobile mapping systems. Top dollars went acquire Topsy Labs ($200 million) and PrimeSense ($350 million).
With more than $150 billion of cash on hand, Apple has the capacity to acquire software and hardware technology much faster than any other company in the world. Apple is known to acquire startup companies more than any other.
