Software starting to safely run machines such as cars
Tesla’s Model S is not just an electric car it is also a gadget full of new technology. It lets you connect to the Internet wirelessly, allows you to open doors with your smartphone, stream music through the Internet radio, and software engineers can remotely fix any software glitches in the car. Not just Tesla, software infused gadgets are getting more popular.
A marriage between software and hardware is shaping all industries. For last 50 years, software built the Web, financial systems, databases, word processing and communication networks. But only recently that software began to safely run machines such as cars. Imagine Ethernet cables running inside a rocket such as SpaceX rocket? This is why Google is heavily investing in startups that blend hardware and software for homes and other industries. General Motors use software to tune and perform routine maintenance on jet engines, trains, and turbines. Software behemoth Facebook bought Oculus, a virtual-reality headset maker. The hardware and software pairing is most visible in non-other, the Apple’s iPhone. The US leads the software driven hardware industry at this time and other nations are fighting with the US for their share. More yet to come.
