What is GIS Software?
GIS stands for Geographical Information System. GIS software is software that can store information and data concerning a particular location. GIS software is usually some kind of mapping program i.e. Google Earth that gives an in depth look of a certain area. It is different from a topographical map in the sense that it shows surveying and aerial photography. The best example of a website that utilizes GIS software again is Google Earth.
GIS software can be used for so many different things. A real estate company can use it to show a perspective buyer just exactly what a property may look like. It can be used for everything from solving crimes to controlling a person’s portfolio. In the case of finances, GIS software can be used to give a person information concerning median income in their areas or like in the case of real estate, the person can see just what kind of terrain is surrounding the property they want to buy.
Computer software has come a long way and that is so very evident with the innovation of GIS software. GIS software is so broad that it can help anybody in any situation. While some of the information may come across as too private or personal, GIS software is intended to help people not hurt them. In this ever so present information age, a person can simply point and click away at their PC and have access to anything and everything that they want. This is the true persona of Geographical Information System software.
